Increase in Car B+E’s seen in the County
In recent months there has been an increase in the amount of Car Break Ins throughout Union County with a higher concentration being seen in the Indian Trail and Sun Valley High School area neighborhoods. The neighborhoods being targeted the most appear to be Brandon Oaks, Taylor Glenn, Sandalwood, Meriwhether, Cornerstone, Holly Park, Brookstone Village, Alexis Pointe, the Brittany Downs cluster, Lake Park and the surrounding neighborhoods in that area. Other areas throughout the county have also seen an increase in this type of crime and the majority of these crimes are due to the victims leaving their valuables in their vehicles and then leaving the vehicles unlocked.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is recommending that everyone remove their valuables from their vehicles and make sure that their vehicles are locked and secure when not in use. If you are out in the county and shopping then make sure that anything of value is out of sight and preferably locked in the trunk. When you exit your vehicle to enter the store make sure that the windows are rolled up and that all of your doors are locked and secure. The main way to deter this type of crime is to make it harder for the criminals to be able to commit the crime and increase the likelihood of getting caught.
If you are out in your community and see anything that appears suspicious or like it doesn’t belong in the area then you are encouraged to report it to the Union County Sheriff’s Office or call 911.
If anyone has any information about the recent Car Break-ins then please call the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 704-283-3789 or if you wish to remain anonymous then you may call Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600. Any help from the community is appreciated.
